Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
A: I haven't before, but I've always believed in checking things out regardless of reviews. I think people should make a decision for themselves. I'd use the review for feedback, but a bad review wouldn't influence my decision to read it or not. In the end it all comes down to being interested in the subject matter.

I agree. You should definitely decide for yourself. Everyone has different tastes.

Yeah it's better to make up your own mind about books rather than follow the crowd :-)

The only time a review will keep me away from a book, is if I feel like I agree with what the blogger says. I mean I would only be influenced if I was skeptical about the book in the first place.

Agree! It's all about the story and whether you find it interesting or not. If you like it in the end that great, but if you don't that too bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and following! Returned :)
Definitely agree! Though, I would be more inclined to borrow than buy, I think. That way if I don't end up liking it, I don't lose money, and if I do like it - I can always buy it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! Followed you via GFC :).

DeleteI always think it is good to use reviews for feedback, but not to rely solely on them for purchases. You just never know!

I agree with you, Preet. :) Nice answer. and thanks for stopping by the blog! You have a new follower in me. have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHm, true.. I don't think a negative review of "The sexual behaviour of slugs" would in any way influence my decision, but in general I do read books because they got many negative and positive reviews to know what the fuss is about etc. :)

Definitely agree. Not everyone likes the same things and it's hard to determine how a book will strike you even if you're familiar with the reviewer's likes and dislikes.
